This Site and Me
Activity is Where You Find It!
Hi everyone. My name is Dave, and my lifestyle is the driving force behind this activity based website. As you click through its pages, you’ll come across various articles and videos meant to describe that lifestyle. Some of the activities you will be familiar with, at least at a cursory level. Others you may not. Regardless, this site will give you a chance to experience them through my eyes.
Mode of Transportation
I’ll be driving my 1988 Bluebird Wanderlodge WB (widebody) RV throughout Canada, and the United States of America. There is no planned route, no agenda, and no timelines that must be met. Just my interest in new experiences, and my desire to enjoy them as they unfold!
Interests
As you might expect, I have many interests. Too many to include them all in these pages. Instead, I’ll limit myself to the following:
(1) Hiking – this will include both natural and urban settings.
(2) Mountain Biking – I ride intermediate trails using a top-of-the-line dual suspension bike.
(3) Photography – my area of interest is nature and wildlife, but I primarily focus on birds.
(4) RV Travel – life on the road, place to place, in my 400 square foot, mobile home.
(5) Miscellaneous – anything of significant interest that doesn’t fit into the other categories.
with some of the more prominent extras added to the miscellaneous pages.
For Example
The theme for my lifestyle can be summed up in one word, “ACTIVITY”. Even when I’m not out-and-about, I’m doing something. Whether it be chores around my RV, or business maintenance. There’s always something. I’m a firm believer in the old saying, “use it or loose it”.
Let me give you an example of how easy it is to go wrong. Remember when you were a kid and would go out riding your bike? I do. I use to ride my bike every day for hours at a time. But as I got older University came, then my work-life. It wasn’t long before I didn’t have time for the simple pleasures like riding. Once I got into my thirties, I discovered that I was 60 pounds over-weight, and couldn’t ride anymore. That made me very unhappy. I needed a change.
Eventually, I lost the weight and got back into shape. But it took significant time and effort. Bottom line, change to an “activity-based” lifestyle now, and save yourself real trouble in the future.
Nay Sayers
Some folks see or hear about the things I do, and shake their heads. In their minds there is no way they could do them. They’re too old, or too out-of-shape, to even consider it. To that I say bullshit!
As I write this (21-Jan-2024), I’ve just turned 62 years of age. Old to some I suppose, and not-so-much to others. I had a kidney transplant about 6 years ago, and I’m a Type 2 diabetic. So, if you think you can’t do the things I present here, you’re mistaken. I can, and so can you. Simply get off your butt and try. Activity!
Now, I’m not suggesting that my activities are the only ones you should consider … far from it. These are the choices I’ve made. So ask yourself, what are you interested in? Maybe it’s a walk to the local coffee shop for chess, maybe it’s bird watching in your central park, or maybe it’s ice cream with your kids. In the end, it really doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you have an interest, and it keeps you active.
Conclusion
This is important. If you don’t keep active, you’ll eventually loose the ability to participate in any activity. You’ll become the proverbial couch potato, no physical or mental challenge. Don’t let this happen to you.
